Luna Lovegood is a young witch attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Her mother was killed in a magical accident when she was nine years old, and her father, Xenophilius, is the editor of wizarding magazine The Quibbler.
Luna is an eager member of Ravenclaw house, which prizes wit and intelligence in its members. She idolises the founder of the house, Rowena Ravenclaw, and regularly recites her most famous quote 'Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure'.
Though her eccentricities and odd beliefs mean that Luna is often isolated at school, she holds the small number of friends she does have in high regard. These friends are Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley, Hermione Granger, Ginny Weasley and Neville Longbottom, who she met in her fourth year after joining Dumbledore’s Army.
Although Luna is apparently aware of the fact that she has been nicknamed ‘Loony’ by other pupils, but cares little about what other people think. She has a calm demeanor and a steadfast faith in both her friends, her house and her various strange beliefs.
Even death does not phase Luna a great deal. Though she does occasionally feel upset about the loss of her mother, she is content in the knowledge that they will meet again one day.
